so I cannot make any promise for this recipies efficacy:

I notice a peculiar absence of other herbs crowley listed as ingredients in his essay (link given you earlier) so when I make it (if I can find wormwood) I will probably add Melissa, fennel, and mint.

If you or anyone else finds a decent source for the wormwood, even if I have to... nah...I cant be attacking at shrubberies in central park... okay but anything short of that, please return the favor and let me know where to find some and I will gladly pour you a glass if I survive the first tastings.

I have ordered from these folks twice -- delivery is very fast (a week or so) -- and the company is reputable. I've only purchased the mid-level stuff ($40 to $50). It's basically the strongest peppermint schnapps you've ever had. Either that or like freebasing Scope. The buzz is less like alcohol and more like a narcotic. You can also purchase a more pure, wormwood concoction -- but for much more money. It's worth it for the novelty, I suppose, but unless you're gonna spend $400 don't expect to see Ernest Hemmingway dancing with a little green fairy.

I used to grow wormwood, although not for the purposes of making absinthe. I actually would use it to put in drawers and closets to keep moths out. Plus, it keeps a lot of odd bugs out of your vegetable garden.

Ah, wormwood. So useful. Not only for making absinthe.

Could it be the wormwood that made me hurl for 8 hours after I had a sip of absinthe?

Prior to that experience I've always had good experiences. I love it but...I'm a wee bit leary about drinking the stuff again.

        Any wisdom or suggestions?

It might have been the wormwood. Wormwood is used medicinally to kill parasites-it is toxic. Usually there isn't enough in Absinthe for one to have this reaction however. If the absinthe was homemade someone may have put too much wormwood in it (or too much of some other ingredient that you had a reaction to). Absinthe also has a pretty high alcohol level, your body could have been reacting to that.

Or it could have been completely unrelated.

I would suggest trying it again and finding out. Otherwise you might spend your whole life wondering...
