Hello,
So I'm new to the tribe...and Burning Man for that matter (I lost my virginity this year)-- I was camping with the Temple Crew and Burners Without Borders ( www.burnerswithoutborders.org/ ). Though I spent a decent amount of time by my neighbors at the Hookahdome...I, unfortunately, didn't get to sample your traveling bar.
I have been researching Absinthe for a while now...I've read a lot of FAQs and random posts. I've learned that the "infusion method" does not make true absinthe...which I'm honestly not concerned about. I enjoy and entertain the idea of making a strange "potion." And I have no intentions of investing in a still at this point in my life.
I found this website: www.deadflesh.org/fear/absinthe.html
I'm curious if it was created by one of your camp's members-- for whatever reason, I’m intuiting that it was not. Either way, however, I am curious if you all use a similar infusion method or do you actually distill your absinthe?
I'm thinking about trying it for kicks...unless anyone more knowledgeable about this stuff tells me it is dangerous-- I know wormwood isn’t something to play around with heedlessly. So any knowledge from you folks will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Abstininthe Absinthe Question
Fri, September 15, 2006 - 10:32 PMYeah, that is another bar and not us. We have several recipes we use. and we use both infusion and distillation to make our absinthe. We have many flavors that do not include anise which absinthe conniseurs would say was not "true" absinthe. At abstininthe we have focused mainly on taste and making the bar a fun place to come to. If you are really interested in absinthe I would recommend www.feeverte.net/recipes.html It is a good website.
Hope that helps. see you next year. -

I will most definitely pay a visit the bar next year.
Perhaps I'll even have a personal batch to share and gift. -

Re: Abstininthe Absinthe Question
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 6:48 PMI know this was ages ago, and I'm not a regular member, but I thought I would toss this link out there:
wormwoodsociety.org
I am an AVID Absinthe drinker.. so much so I completely wasted too much money on getting bottles of Jade from overseas.. :)
In the US there are currently two commercial types of "true" absinthe.. Kubler (a white absinthe) and Lucid (a green one)
Others are coming online.. check the website for an absolute load of good information!
